WORLD BRIEFING / BRITAIN
Authorities are checking whether two bodies that Iraq handed over to British officials may be the remains of men taken hostage two years ago, Foreign Secretary David Miliband said.
“We do not yet have confirmation of who they are. Forensic examinations are under way to establish their identities and the causes of death,” Miliband said. “Our immediate thoughts are clearly with the families of the five Britons taken hostage in Baghdad in May 2007.
“They will fear the worst for their loved ones. This is a terrible moment of uncertainty and fear for them.
The bodies were handed over on Friday in Baghdad, he said.
Computer instructor Peter Moore and his four bodyguards were seized by a Shiite militant group at an Iraqi Finance Ministry building in Baghdad.
