Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner ruled out a Cabinet reshuffle and defended her handling of the economy Monday after losing control of Congress in a midterm election.

The vote was seen as a rejection of her combative style and economic policies; she acknowledged that she would have to seek new alliances in Congress. But she rejected a broad change in direction.

In addition, Fernandez’s husband, former President Nestor Kirchner, lost a high-profile congressional race.
