CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / LAKE FOREST
A young father has been sentenced to 21 years to life in state prison for the brutal physical and sexual abuse of his newborn son, the Orange County district attorney’s office reported Wednesday.
Andrew David Fusco, 24, was found guilty nearly a year ago by Orange County Superior Court Judge Marc Kelly of two counts of felony aggravated assault of a child and sexual assault with foreign objects and four counts of child abuse.
Fusco and the boy’s mother, Megan Michelle Martinez, had told emergency room doctors that the bruises, fractures, bites and lacerations on their month-old son’s body were inflicted by a family cat.
Martinez, 23, was convicted of child abuse in 2007 for exposing the baby to danger and is serving a six-year sentence.
The boy, now 4, has been adopted by an Orange County family, said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
