Times delivery driver is killed
A Times delivery driver was killed early Sunday in North Hills when his pickup truck was hit head-on by a suspected drunk driver, police said.
Maximino Angeles Hernandez, 41, of Van Nuys died at the scene of the 5:30 a.m. accident, which occurred on Woodley Avenue just south of Parthenia Street.
Angeles Hernandez was on his way to work at the time, said his supervisor, Salomon Soto, one of the newspaper’s contract distributors. Soto said he had employed Angeles Hernandez since last August.
“He was one of my best guys,” Soto said. “He was always on time and always bringing ideas to make the business better.”
Police said that a Hyundai driven by Sueng Lee, 23, crossed the dividing line and struck Angeles Hernandez’s Mazda pickup.
Lee, of North Hills, allegedly was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and then arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, police said.
Lee was being held on $1-million bail.
