A painter accused of shooting up a nursing home may have been looking for his estranged wife during a rampage that killed seven residents and a nurse, authorities said.
Robert Stewart’s wife was working as a nursing assistant at Pinelake Health and Rehab when he attacked Sunday, Carthage Police Chief Chris McKenzie said. The breakup was part of a rocky relationship that spread over many years and followed other failed marriages, according to court documents.
“This was not a random act of violence,” Moore County Dist. Atty. Maureen Krueger said. The estranged wife was identified by a neighbor as Wanda Luck.
