CALIFORNIA BRIEFING
Authorities have found the body of a 73-year-old man who disappeared during a hike up Mt. Whitney.
The National Park Service said the body of Wade Brunette of Hansville, Wash., was found a little after noon Saturday on the eastern slope of the 14,494-foot mountain by a team of search dogs.
Crews began searching for Brunette on Tuesday after he failed to return from a hike to the summit of 14,494-foot Mt. Whitney, the tallest peak in the contiguous United States.
Search efforts were complicated by extremely windy and cold conditions during the early part of the week.
The cause of his death is under investigation.
