Highlights: Santa, dressed in board shorts, arrives by pirate ship. A holiday parade, tree lighting and free LED holiday-light exchange are also part of the event.

The White Lights Ceremony and other holiday festivities
When, where: Nov. 27 to 29, the Broadmoor
Highlights: Santa and Mrs. Claus appear for this 23-year-old celebration that includes a tree-lighting, a Gingerbread Village, ice sculptures, live music, pictures and meals with the Clauses, family Bingo and movie screenings.
Cost: Most events are free

Holiday Parade of Lights
When, where: Nov. 29; South Main Street, through Old Town to the National Steinbeck Center
Highlights: More than 10,000 observers show up to see some 80 floats, marching bands, dancers and classic cars.

SANTA BARBARA
Folk & Tribal Arts Marketplace
When, where: Dec. 4 to 6, Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History
Highlights: The 24th annual event features artisans selling works from more than 50 countries.
Cost: Admission is free; sales proceeds benefit the museum.

MENDOCINO, CALIF.
Candlelight Inn Tour
When, where: Dec. 9 to 11; Mendocino, Little River, Albion and Fort Bragg
Highlights: For the 21st year, more than 25 lodges open their doors for evening tours and refreshments.
Cost: $25 for all three nights; $10 for children age 10 and younger; proceeds benefit Big Brothers/ Big Sisters and Mendocino schools.
