An occasional series in which top comics tell us who’s making them laugh. This week: Rob Corddry on Louis C.K.
“I’ve been obsessed with Louis C.K.’s show, ‘Louie.’ I spent like 45 minutes talking about [it] in therapy two weeks ago! Because it’s completely, like, no holds barred, him vomiting his darkest, most embarrassing issues. No one crystallizes my darkest, most embarrassing feelings more than Louis C.K. does. He seems way more free than I am when writing comedy, and I really aspire to that.
“His stand-up — he’s the best stand-up working today. I don’t really enjoy stand-up, to tell you the truth. I like maybe five minutes here, 10 minutes there, but [his stand-up] is like his show — it’s really just him saying the things that I haven’t heard any comic talk about. It’s more cerebral than anything.... I think he’s the funniest person — I was going to say working today, but really, the past 20 years.”
—As told to Deborah Vankin
