AT THE PLATE: Andre Ethier hit his third home run of the spring, a towering shot to right-center in the third inning. Casey Blake was two for three with a double, run and run batted in to improve his spring average to .378.
ON THE MOUND: Fifth-starter candidates Ramon Ortiz, Carlos Monasterios and Russ Ortiz pitched in relief. Ramon Ortiz gave up a hit in an otherwise tranquil two-thirds of an inning, Monasterios couldn’t get out of the seventh inning, and Russ Ortiz limited the damage to a home run over two innings.
EXTRA BASES: Brad Ausmus was scheduled to catch only three innings but told Manager Joe Torre that his back was pain-free and convinced him to let him catch six innings.
UP NEXT: The Dodgers face the Cincinnati Reds at 1 p.m. at Goodyear, Ariz.
