Roger Federer to face Rafael Nadal in Madrid final

Roger Federer will meet Rafael Nadal in a second consecutive Madrid Masters final after beating David Ferrer of Spain, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, on Saturday.

Nadal came from behind to beat Spanish countryman Nicolas Almagro, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, in the first semifinal.

Last year, Federer beat then No. 1-ranked Nadal in the final for his second Madrid title.

Nadal, assured of returning to No. 2 in the rankings with Saturday’s win, is aiming for his second title in Madrid.

Earlier, Venus Williams reached her first Madrid Masters final by beating Shahar Peer of Israel, 6-3, 6-0.

Williams has a 12-1 record on clay this year after beating Samantha Stosur and Vera Zvonareva this week.

The fourth-seeded American will play Aravane Rezai of France after Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic retired because of a thigh injury.

Four share lead at Texas Open

Brett Wetterich birdied his last three holes for a four-under-par 68, and Jimmy Walker and James Nitties shot 67s to join Matt Jones atop the leaderboard at seven under in the rain-delayed Texas Open.

The second round was pushed back after more than three inches of rain washed out play Friday on the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio. The final 36 holes will be played Sunday.

Jones had a 71 in the second round.

Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lincicome and Se Ri Pak head into the final round of the Bell Micro LPGA Classic at Mobile, Ala., tied atop the leaderboard at 13 under.

Pettersen had an eagle on the par-five No. 6 to help her catch up with second-round leader Pak and shoot a seven-under 65 on the Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

Pak’s 68 kept the Hall of Famer from South Korea under 70 for the third straight round and in position for her 25th win and first since the 2007 Owens Corning Classic.

Lincicome, of the United States, came in at 67.

Dan Forsman made two eagles on his way to a tournament-record 10-under 62, leaving him a stroke behind leader Bobby Clampett after the second round of the Regions Charity Classic at Hoover, Ala.

The 50-year-old Clampett, a TV analyst who won the 1982 Southern Open for his lone PGA Tour title, shot a 64 to finish at 15-under 129 — the best 36-hole score in the history of the event — on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Ross Bridge course.

Kyle Busch wins in wild finish

Kyle Busch won the Nationwide Series race at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, a day after he ran out of fuel at the end of the Trucks Series race.

Busch won from the pole in a race that needed a green-white checkered finish. And what a finish: The final laps were marred by wrecks, including one in which Clint Bowyer intentionally hit Denny Hamlin in retaliation for an earlier accident. Bowyer was immediately parked and ordered straight to the NASCAR hauler.

The race was red-flagged for 11 minutes 43 seconds with less than 10 laps remaining after an accident left fluid and debris all over the track.

Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, Reed Sorenson and Jason Leffler rounded out the top five.

Mark Webber was fastest in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, giving Red Bull its sixth straight start from the pole position this Formula One season.

NASCAR driver Brian Vickers was released from the Washington hospital where he was treated for blood clots in his legs and near his lungs.

Chelsea wins FA Cup

Chelsea defeated Portsmouth, 1-0, in the FA Cup final at Wembley, England, and completed the Premier League champion’s first domestic double.

Chelsea hit the posts five times and Portsmouth missed a penalty before Didier Drogba curled a free kick in off the post in the 59th minute for his 37th goal of the season.

Krzysztof Wlodarczyk took the vacant WBC cruiserweight title by stopping Giacobbe Fragomeni in the eighth round at Lodz, Poland.
