Raymond Chandler haunt for sale in Brentwood
A Brentwood property that was briefly home to novelist-screenwriter Raymond Chandler is on the market for $2.395 million.
Built in 1927, the Spanish-style house is on a cul-de-sac and surrounded by lush gardens and mature trees.
The redone interiors feature a wood-burning fireplace, French doors, two bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,150 square feet of living space. A guesthouse/studio has heated concrete floors and solar panels.
There’s also a two-car garage with a laundry area.
Chandler, who died in 1959 at 70, wrote detective mysteries. Many of his novels, including “The Big Sleep,” “Farewell, My Lovely” and “The Long Goodbye,” were made into movies.
He moved frequently and lived in the Brentwood house only a short time in 1942 while working on “The High Window.”
The property previously sold for $612,000 in 1995.
