Richard Pryor haunt in Northridge’s Sherwood Forest lists for $2.75 million
A San Fernando Valley compound where comedian and actor Richard Pryor made his home for years is for sale at $2.75 million.
Found within Sherwood Forest, a leafy enclave in Northridge, the 2.2-acre property centers on a Spanish-style home with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. A guesthouse, a pool house, a dance studio and a playhouse are among the other structures on the estate.
Meandering pathways crisscross the setting, leading to a swimming pool and spa, various sports courts and a barbecue pavilion. Mature trees, citrus groves and gardens fill the remaining landscape.
The main house, damaged in the Northridge earthquake and rebuilt in 1994, features a kitchen with a tiled island, a library, a billiards room and a wine closet. In the family room, there’s a sunken wet bar. The master suite has French doors that open to a balcony overlooking the grounds.
The guesthouse includes a living room, a sauna and a kitchen; the pool house has another full kitchen and a man cave. In all, the various structures combine to offer more than 9,000 square feet of living space.
The property last changed hands in 1989 for $940,000, records show.
Neil McDermott of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, holds the listing.
Pryor, who died in 2005 at 65, was a stand-up comedian and actor whose credits include “Silver Streak” (1976), “Brewster’s Millions” (1985) and “See No Evil, Hear No Evil” (1989). He won multiple Grammys for best comedy album and an Emmy in 1974 for best writing in a comedy-variety show.
