Apple’s iOS 6 is now live and ready for download.

The update of the mobile operating system became available on the West Coast at 10 a.m. Users who want to download it can do so by connecting a supported Apple device to their computers and launching iTunes.

Or they can download it wirelessly by going to the Settings app, clicking “General” and clicking “Software Update.”

Usually, iOS updates take a couple of minutes, but it can take as much as a half hour.

Among the new features: it allows Siri voice commands to work on the third-generation iPad and the new iPod Touch; it integrates Facebook into the operating system; and a new app called PassBook can digitally store flight boarding passes, movie tickets and other items.

And iOS 6 will include Apple’s new Maps app, which replaces Google Maps for navigation. It includes voice turn-by-turn navigation and a feature called Flyover, which will show you some cities and landmarks in 3-D.
