Will your Apple device be able to update to iOS 7?

Apple’s next mobile operating system, iOS 7, was unveiled Monday and will be available to the public in the fall. But will your mobile device be able to use it?

The new operating system -- built for the company’s line of iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches -- brings with it a slew of new features and the OS’s biggest design overhaul since Apple launched the iPhone in 2007.

However, iOS 7 will not work with all of Apple’s old devices. Instead, the platform is being designed for the company’s more recent models. Here’s what’s supported:

iPhone

If you have an iPhone 4, 4S or 5, you’ll be able to upgrade your device to iOS 7. That means users who bought the iPhone 4 in 2010 will be getting at least one more year of solid support and updates from Apple. The iPhone 3GS, 3G and the original iPhone, though, will not be supported.

iPod Touch

If you don’t own the latest version of the iPod Touch, you won’t be able to download iOS 7. Apple says it’s new mobile operating system is compatible only with the fifth generation of the iPod Touch, which launched late last year.

iPad

Except for the original iPad, released in 2010, all others will be able to use iOS 7. That includes iPad 2, iPad mini and third and fourth generations of the iPad will be able to upgrade.

However, as normally happens with Apple, not all of the features found on iOS 7 will be available for all of the supported devices. For example, the Airdrop feature, which lets users easily send files to others in their vicinity, will be available only on the newest iPhone model, the iPhone 5.
