Shyp expands its on-demand shipping service to more L.A. areas
Reporting from San Francisco — On-demand shipping service Shyp is expanding to more parts of the Los Angeles area Tuesday, and planning a new feature to accommodate businesses with bulk shipping needs.
The company, which dispatches workers to pick up, package and mail items, will broaden its coverage zones from the downtown and Santa Monica areas to also include Highland Park, South Pasadena and Alhambra.
Shyp Chief Executive Kevin Gibbon said the company is working to make its service more business friendly.
Starting Tuesday, Shyp will lift its 20-item limit and offer business-specific discounts. It also plans to develop ways for businesses to input hundreds of addresses at a time, instead of going through the consumer app, which allows users to input only one address at a time.
Business deliveries account for 50% of the company’s revenue.
“We always knew we were going to address business pain points, but we decided to go after consumers first because it’s the most underserved part of the market,” said Gibbon, who added that the company would not abandon the consumer-facing services.
But the bigger opportunity, he said, lies in businesses, because they are more likely to ship larger volumes at higher frequencies.
The company partnered with EBay in March, allowing sellers on the e-commerce platform to choose Shyp as an option when they send items to buyers. Since then, other L.A. companies have used Shyp for corporate package fulfillment, including signage firm Enplug, dog-walking service Wag and branded content company Social Native.
