‘A View From the Bridge,’ directed by Ivo van Hove, coming to Los Angeles

The acclaimed Young Vic production of Arthur Miller’s “A View From the Bridge,” directed by the in-demand Ivo van Hove, is coming to Los Angeles, following recent runs in London and Broadway. The drama is scheduled to open the 50th anniversary season of the Ahmanson Theatre in September.

Leaders at Center Theatre Group said that the new season will also feature “Amélie, A New Musical,” based on the popular 2001 French film. There will also be national tours of the recent Tony Award winners “Fun Home” and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.”

“A View From the Bridge” (Sept. 7 to Oct. 16) opened at the Young Vic in London in 2014 and then transferred in 2015 to the West End. The drama later transferred to Broadway, opening in November and closing earlier this year.

Van Hove, who hails from Belgium, has become a darling among certain critics in recent years for his non-naturalistic productions of new and classic plays. He is currently working on another Miller drama, “The Crucible,” on Broadway.

No casting has been announced for the L.A. run of “A View From the Bridge,” whose official opening is scheduled for Sept. 14. The New York run starred Mark Strong, Phoebe Fox, Nicola Walker and Russell Tovey.

“Amélie” (Dec. 4 to Jan. 15) debuted last year at Berkeley Rep in a production directed by Pam MacKinnon, who will be back to stage the musical at the Ahmanson. The musical features a book by Craig Lucas, and music by Daniel Messé and lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Messé.

The lesbian-themed musical “Fun Home” (Feb. 21, 2017, to April 1, 2017) will make its local premiere as part of a national tour, as well as “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” (Aug. 2, 2017, to Sept. 10, 2017).

The season will also include the Fiasco Theatre’s innovative production of “Into the Woods” (April 4, 2017, to May 14, 2017), seen previously at the Old Globe in San Diego, and the return of “Jersey Boys” (May 16, 2017, to June 24, 2017).
