Yvonne Rainer to present new dance piece at Getty Center
The renowned choreographer Yvonne Rainer will present a new dance work at the Getty Center in Los Angeles this fall in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition “Yvonne Rainer: Dances and Films” organized by the Getty Research Institute.
“The Concept of Dust, or How do you look when there’s nothing left to move?” will be performed Oct. 3 and 4 as a work-in-progress. The program will also include Rainer’s 2013 piece “Assisted Living: Do You Have Any Money?”
Rainer’s new work is a co-commission between the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Research Institute and Performa, the New York nonprofit arts organization focused on live performance.
The Getty said that admission to the October performances will be $20. (Students and seniors will be charged $15.) The Getty Research Institute acquired the Rainer archives in 2006 and was a commissioner of her 2008 dance work “Spiraling Down.”
Rainer, a native of Northern California, is often described as a postmodern and minimalist choreographer. She was a founder of the famed Judson Dance Theater in New York.
The exhibition “Yvonne Rainer: Dances and Films” is on view at the Getty Center through Oct. 12.
