Cast of Broadway’s ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ revival taking shape

If the phrase “coffee is for closers” means anything to you, then you’ll be interested to learn that the cast of the latest Broadway revival of David Mamet’s exploration of the cutthroat world of business, “Glengarry Glen Ross,” is rounding into form.

Staged in honor of the play’s 30th anniversary, the production will be led by Al Pacino, who appeared in a 1992 movie adaptation as hot shot salesman Ricky Roma. This time out he’ll shift to the washed-out salesman Shelley Levene.

Another Broadway veteran, Bobby Cannavale, has been announced as portraying Roma.

Jeremy Shamos, who earned a Tony nomination for his role in”Clybourne Park,”will play Roma’s mark, James Lingk, and John C. McGinley has just been added as the bitterly driven salesman, Dave Moss.

McGinley may be best known in recent years for his comedic turn on NBC’s “Scrubs,” but he brought an appropriately Mamet-ian intensity to both that role and his turns in Oliver Stone’s”Platoon” and “Talk Radio.” McGinley also performed on Broadway in a 1985 production of “Requiem for a Heavyweight.”

Mamet won a Tony and the Pulitzer Prize for “Glengarry Glen Ross” in 1984, and the film adaptation boasted a who’s who of acting talent with a cast that also included Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey and Alec Baldwin, whose role was written specifically for the screen.

The play also took home a Tony for best revival for a 2005 production that featured Liev Schreiber and Alan Alda. Performances for this latest version begin Oct. 16.
