Dish Network and Hoak Media reach new deal
Satellite broadcaster Dish Network has struck a new deal with Hoak Media and will resume carrying the Dallas-based TV station owner’s 14 stations.
Last week, Hoak Media’s smaller-market stations were pulled from Dish after the two sides failed to come to terms on a new distribution agreement. Although such spats between programmers and distributors have become commonplace, this one was noteworthy because Dish said Hoak had cited the satellite operator’s new commercial skipping device, known as the AutoHop, as a reason it was pulling its stations.
Dish did not disclose the terms of the new agreement nor did it say if there was some sort of compromise reached on the AutoHop, a feature on Dish’s DVRs that blacks out commercials on shows recorded off of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox.
“We’re grateful to Hoak for its willingness to work toward an agreement that benefits our customers,” said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for Dish.
Executives at Hoak did not return calls seeking comment.
