Elton John, David Furnish get married after nine years of civil union
Singer Elton John and new husband David Furnish had a wedding ceremony in England on Sunday exactly nine years after having their civil-partnership ceremony.
Elton John and longtime partner David Furnish are married.
The iconic British singer and the filmmaker exchanged vows at their Windsor estate in Berkshire, England, on Sunday exactly nine years after entering into a civil partnership.
The pair, who had that civil ceremony on Dec. 21, 2005, opted for a traditional wedding after England and Wales began permitting same-sex marriages in March, the BBC reported.
They signed the paperwork that morning, the "Bennie & the Jets" crooner shared on Instagram.
The grooms wore tuxedos and Elton sported black and orange sunglasses for the occasion. (The specs were later hijacked by singer Ed Sheeran.)
Their two sons — Zachary, nearly 4, and Elijah, 1 — served as ring bearers and carried stuffed bunnies that had the rings affixed to their collars. A Damien Hirst sculpture served as the altar.
The 67-year-old piano maestro, real name Reginald Kenneth Dwight, and his new husband, 57, have been together for more than two decades. They posted several photos of their latest festivities throughout the day under #ShareTheLove.

Elijah interjected himself between his dads as they exchanged vows and Zachariah captured the moment with Furnish's iPhone.
The "Tiny Dancer" singer said they used red roses in their decor because the flowers had brought them "so much luck" the first time around.
The lunch menu featured wild mushroom soup with truffle cream, beef short rib and caramelized onion pie. For dessert, the couple had warm chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream as well as wedding cake featuring their "DE" monogram.
Their A-list attendees included "Don't" singer Sheeran (who'd performed at Elton's Oscars viewing party in early 2014), soccer icon David Beckham along with his wife Victoria Beckham and their kids, actor Hugh Grant and actress Elizabeth Hurley. Grammy winner Adele couldn't make it to the festivities but shared a card, signed by her, her partner Simon Konecki and son Angelo, which said they will see the officially married couple in 2015.
