Gal Gadot feels ‘so good’ playing Wonder Woman, thanks to her daughter’s princess obsession

Gal Gadot is feeling really good about playing Wonder Woman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

The Israeli-born actress told Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday that she feels like “the luckiest girl in the world” to play DC’s Amazonian princess-turned-superhero Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman.

The former Miss Israel costars with Ben Affleck (Batman) and Henry Cavill (Superman) in the highly anticipated Warner Bros. action film, but she’ll also be headlining her own standalone movie featuring the character, slated for June 2017.

But Gadot’s real pride in the role has much to do with her 4-year-old daughter, Alma, who is “really into princesses and dress-up,” the actress said.

“She understands. I’m not sure how much of it she gets,” the 30-year-old said of Alma’s comprehension of her job.

Then the “Fast & Furious” alum recalled one of the visits Alma paid to the set when Gadot was fully costumed as Wonder Woman. It should be noted that this iteration of the DC character dons a new warrior-like costume for the first time.

“She said, ‘Mommy, if you wear a tiara does that mean you’re a queen and I’m a princess?’” Gadot said. She replied, “I’m playing dress-up, Alma. This is dress-up.”

But Alma was fixated on princesses, despite the trope that they often don’t do much on TV and in films and simply enable princes to get all the action.

“One time I was telling her a story and then she said, ‘the princes are always so brave and courageous and strong ... [the princesses] always fall asleep, and then the prince is the one to wake them up, and they do nothing.’ And that made me feel so good about playing Wonder Woman,” Gadot said.

DeGeneres agreed that it’s important for young girls to have role models that are strong and more than just royal.

“Boys always had Batman, Superman and Spider-Man, and girls have the princesses,” Gadot said.

“Well now we have Supergirl on television and now we have Wonder Woman,” DeGeneres said. “We have to keep putting those role models out there for boys to see them too.”

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” hits theaters March 25.
