George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are married, having said their vows Saturday evening in Venice, Italy.

The Oscar winner, 53, and the London-based human-rights lawyer, 36, were wed before friends and family at the seven-star Aman Canal Grande hotel, his rep confirmed. The ceremony -- which will likely be followed by a civil service Monday -- was officiated by Clooney pal Walter Veltroni, a former mayor of Rome.

Crowds along the Grand Canal cheered as Clooney and guests passed by around sunset Saturday in vintage water taxis, People said. The groom’s boat, which also carried dad Nick Clooney, was reportedly the last to arrive.

The couple, who got engaged in April, were first romantically linked in October.

High-profile guests among the 100 or so people assembled included close friends Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Matt Damon and wife Luciana Barroso, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Bill Murray, Bono and wife Ali Hewson, Clooney cousin Miguel Ferrer and wife Lori Weintraub, actor and former roommate of the groom Richard Kind, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Clooney’s producing partner Grant Heslov, E! News reported.

“Staff were preparing bouquets, table arrangements and other floral designs well into the night,” a hotel source told Us Weekly. “Everything they were using was white with green flourishes, lots of roses and peonies being used.”

Clooney of course is at home in Italy, where he has a home on Lake Como; he and Alamuddin met in Venice, the actor said recently.

It’s a first marriage for Alamuddin and the second one for Clooney, who was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. Over the years he’s said he was so bad at marriage the first time that he’d never walk down the aisle again.

On Friday night, bride and groom split up and headed off to separate guys-only and ladies-only dinner events. The two parties’ boats went in tandem to the women’s destination, the Aman Canal Grande, where Clooney reportedly walked his fiancee down to the venue before getting back on his boat and heading off with seven friends for a pre-wedding dinner at Da Ivo restaurant.

Stuffed zucchini flowers, figs and ham, razor clams, fresh Tagliolini pasta with thinly sliced truffles and rice with button mushrooms were on the menu, People reported, accompanied by fine wine and Clooney and business partner Gerber’s own tequila.

Alamuddin looked smashing in a bright red Alexander McQueen dress with black accents and a high-low waterfall skirt as she headed out with about a dozen close friends, People said. Sister Tala Alamuddin was in tow, as were mom Bara Alamuddin and fellow lawyer Philippa Webb, E! News reported.

A crowd of about 30 boats met Alamuddin’s arrival at the hotel Friday night, causing a traffic jam that sent some boats into a side canal, People said.

On Saturday morning, Clooney dined with Gerber and Crawford before getting ready for the wedding. He was all smiles on the way from the Cipriani Hotel to the Aman, except for one moment as he entered the building when he played to the crowd with an “Am I really doing this?” look on his face.

Yep, George, you can Amal really did it! Festivities in the form of a lunch and another party are expected to continue Sunday.
