Netflix could produce new episodes of dark sci-fi series ‘Black Mirror’

“Black Mirror,” a kind of millennial “Twilight Zone” that hails from across the pond, may be getting a third season thanks to Netflix.

British anthology series “Black Mirror,” from creator Charlie Brooker, generated a deafening why-haven’t-you-watched-it-yet buzz when Netflix started streaming the series stateside.

The high-tech horror show set in the very near future blends real life Internet problems with future technology. Imagine if you could use an ocular implant to block a person in real life. Or clone your brain and implant that artificial intelligence into your own home. Would you want to? Should we be allowed to?

The first season of “Black Mirror” aired on U.K. Channel 4 in 2011, the second in 2013 and last December, there was a holiday special starring Jon Hamm. And now, Radio Times is reporting that thanks to Netflix, there will be even more “Black Mirror.”

According to Radio Times sources, Netflix and Brooker’s production company, House of Tomorrow, will be making “multiple episodes” of the series.

However, when we reached out to Netflix for comment or confirmation, the company was mum. So, nothing is official. But because the series was very popular on the streaming site, and with Netflix growing its long list of original series, it’s understandable why the company would be looking to make even more “Black Mirror” episodes.

Both Season 1 and 2 were made up of three, seemingly unconnected episodes (although fans have been able to loosely link various characters and plots from “The Waldo Moment” to “Fifteen Million Merits”). But one thing they all have in common is the surprising ability to continuously shock the audience.

Brooker explained (via a Channel 4 YouTube interview) that it was his intent to “actively unsettle people” — which “Black Mirror” does with flair; even the name was inspired by the dark mirror that is created when a screen on an iPad, TV or LCD screen has been turned off.
