Hollywood Headlines: A crazy week in review

The Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, best known the world over as the thoughtful, witty, in-your-face rapper MCA, died Friday. Yauch, who had been battling cancer for the last three years, was part of a trio of New York rappers whose music starting in the 1980s transformed the budding genre and helped take hip-hop nationwide. Though he achieved fame with the Beastie Boys, as their fame grew, he directed his energy toward his lifelong passion: Buddhism and Tibetan independence.   (Jennifer S. Altman / For The Times)

Poor Kate Upton. Can’t a bikini-clad bombshell dance the “cat daddy” in peace? The answer would appear to be no, judging by a controversy over a steamy shoot with fashion photographer Terry Richardson that had Upton taking a break from posing to show off her cat daddy skills. The clip on YouTube quickly hit big, thanks to the sheer, um, bounciness of its subject. It was removed by YouTube moderators Tuesday, who cited a community guidelines violation, then restored Wednesday after a user outcry -- after all, there’s no nudity or wardrobe malfunction in the footage, just a lot of undulating Upton.  (Stephen Lovekin / Getty Images)

Ashton Kutcher is still single -- and after watching a few videos he’s done for a new ad campaign, we’re not sure that’s going to change any time soon. In the spots for Popchips, Kutcher takes on a variety of characters that wander into things-you-can’t-unsee territory. What’s worse, one of the videos -- featuring an Indian character named Raj -- led some to level accusations of racism over the stereotypical character performed by Kutcher in brown-face makeup. Khloe Kardashian wants you to know: She and Lamar Odom aren’t going anywhere -- at least not for long. Though the entire Kardashian family signed a three-year renewal with the E! network the week before, a report Monday said “Khloe and Lamar,” the branch of the franchise specifically following the wife and husband, would be terminated. But Khloe says that isn’t exactly so. The show “has not been canceled,” a rep for Khloe told People TV Watch. “It’s just on hold now while schedules are figured out.”  (Evan Agostini / Associated Press)

Who got Whitney Houston started using drugs? Bobby Brown says it wasn’t him. Houston’s drug use started “way before” he entered the picture, he told Matt Lauer in a “Today” show interview. “I’m not the reason she’s gone,” he added, saying his guess was that it was one bad day with cocaine that killed her, not her body wearing out after years of using the drug.  (Joe Giblin / Associated Press)
