2016 MTV Movie Awards: Fans go wild for ‘Suicide Squad,’ plus highlights from the show and red carpet

Ending the show, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson made a final plug for their new film "Central Intelligence" coming out in June. And they even jokingly projected that it would sweep next year's MTV Movie Awards. "We're basically going to be the 'Titanic' of 2017. And we're going to [expletive] a bear, just in case," Hart said. At the close, fireworks shot into the sky and thousands of blue-and-red light sabers waved in the air. That's a wrap!

The crowd went crazy when Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne and Jared Leto of "Suicide Squad" assembled to introduce never-before-seen clips from the film. Fans almost toppled the barricades holding them back. The actors, who were not in character, hugged each other on stage. DJ Khaled's "All I do is win" played and the four of them started dancing. They even got the crowd involved during the song's chorus. "Sweat, blood and semen ... it's all in this movie," Leto told the crowd. Yikes!

In presenting the award for Movie of the Year with Samuel L. Jackson, "The Legend of Tarzan" star Alexander Skarsgard took to the stage in a black tuxedo jacket and vest — with no pants! Because "Me Tarzan," he said. Skarsgard said he was going to show up shirtless, but Zac Efron pulled that stunt a couple of years ago so he tried to change it up. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" won Movie of the Year; fans in the crowd were given red and blue lightsabers to celebrate. Other nominees in the category included "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Creed," "Deadpool," "Jurassic World," and "Straight Outta Compton."

Melissa McCarthy made a grand appearance to accept the MTV Comedic Genius Award: the crowd carried her up to the stage. On both feet, she moved to hug Kevin Hart and the golden popcorn award flew out of her hand onto the ground. A couple kernels popped off. She remarked that she would trade hers with Kevin's, who won the Comedic Genius Award last year.

"I may be the first woman to receive this award, but I am certainly not the first one to deserve it. I'm a walking human patchwork of all the funny women I have loved and studied over the years," the actress said, thanking many of those women like Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, and Lucille Ball.

McCarthy said her mother taught her to "lovingly go for the kill." And that she has!

To celebrate Will Smith's great achievement in movies, Queen Latifah and Halle Berry helped honor the actor with the MTV Generation Award. "I'm here to make a little noise for my boy. Will and I have been friends for years. We came up together in hip hop," Latifah told the audience. "When I first started touring, I opened for Will. He gave me my first start in TV as well with a role on 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.' There isn't a nicer, funnier, more thoughtful guy in this town."

Berry added: "The reason I admire this talented man most is that Will is a champion for diversity in Hollywood, blazing a path for actors of color."

As he got up to receive his award, Smith received a standing ovation from the audience as his sons Trey and Jaden looked on. "I released my first record when I was 17. I'm 47 years old now. This marks, this June, 30 years in this biz for me. I really want to say I'm humbled. I want all of you to know I am dedicated to being a light in this world. I am dedicating every day," the actor said. "I want to play roles that have dignity. I just want to help. In this world there is a lot of suffering. When you see my material ... I just want all of you to know I am dedicated until the day I die to light and to love."
