“The Ed Sullivan Show” on CBS and “Bonanza” on NBC weren’t the only mainstays of television on Sunday evenings nearly 50 years ago. ABC had its own hit, “The F.B.I.,” which aired from 1965-74. The first 16 episodes of the premiere season just made their DVD debuts on Warner Archive. The hour-long Quinn Martin (“The Fugitive”) series depicted fictionalized versions of actual cases. Efrem Zimbalist Jr. played FBI inspector Lewis Erskine, Philip Abbott was Arthur Ward, J. Edgar Hoover’s assistant, and Stephen Brooks was Erskine’s assistant, Special Agent Jim Rhodes. Guest stars included such actors as Ron Howard and Jack Klugman.
