Katy Perry wants to ‘go into a cave’ after movie premiere [Video]
Between wrapping her 124-date world tour in January and promoting her new 3-D movie, Katy Perry has had an unrelenting schedule this year. And that’s not even taking into account her pending divorce from comedian Russell Brand, which it seems the pop star has barely had time to process.
So it’s no surprise that at the premiere of her documentary, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” the 27-year-old acknowledged she couldn’t wait to go on a vacation.
“I think I’m gonna go into a cave after this,” the musician said while standing on a pink carpet Tuesday afternoon, before performing an eight-song set for around 5,000 screaming fans on Hollywood Boulevard.
Perry said she was looking forward to heading to “a beautiful, unplugged place where there’s not a lot going on, so I can get back and hopefully write some good songs. Take these damn extensions out of my hair and feel my head again, finally.”
During her concert, Perry -- whose ever-changing hair color was purple this week -- donned a sparkly bustier with film reels covering her breasts and a skirt made of concession items. A handful of celebrities turned out to support her , including “Victorious” star Victoria Justice, “Call Me Maybe” singer Carly Rae Jepsen and Selena Gomez and her boyfriend Justin Bieber.
(The young couple elicited a frenzy of their own upon entering Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, as girls jumped from their seats, screaming, to try to snap a photo of the tween royalty.)
Perry’s new film, out July 5, trails her on her recent California Dreams tour, where she was simultaneously experiencing professional career highs and personal lows. In the documentary, fans will get a glimpse into what led to Perry and Brand’s divorce -- their grueling schedules, for one -- and see the emotional toll the breakup took on Perry.
While some of the scenes are revealing -- especially one in which Perry barely makes it on stage because she’s sobbing too hard -- the musician said she wanted to give fans a full portrait of the past year of her life. She worked with the documentary’s directors, frequenting the edit bay and watching various cuts of the film.
“Yes, honey, I do everything myself,” she said with a smile. “I’m a control freak.”
[For the Record, 1:30 p.m. June 27: An earlier version of this post stated that Katy Perry and Russell Brand were divorced in February. They reached a property agreement in February; their divorce is not yet finalized.]
