Alleged stalker arrested after following Hugh Jackman with razor
Hugh Jackman was accosted by a razor-toting Bakersfield woman Saturday morning at a New York City gym.
The woman, 47-year-old Katherine Thurston, reportedly ran into Jackman outside his gym and said, “We’re going to get married, right?” before making her way inside, shouting that she loved him and taking an electric razor out of a bag, according to the New York Post.
After losing hold of the razor and being told to leave, she fled and was arrested several blocks away. She was then charged with stalking, police told CNN. The razor reportedly fell out of her hands after a trainer from the gym stepped between Thurston and Jackman.
“For me, of course, my main concern is my family and that this woman gets the help she needs,” Jackman told paparazzi on Sunday, admitting he was “a little bit” shaken up by events.
On March 6, Thurston had approached Jackman’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, and their 7-year-old daughter, Ava, and announced that she was going to marry Jackman, authorities told the Post.
“This is not against the law. It is not against the law to have two wives,” Thurston said Saturday, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the New York Daily News.
Why the razor? “I hated him having those whiskers,” Thurston told police, according to the Daily News. The razor reportedly was full of her own hair.
Thurston’s 21-year-old daughter, Kalianna, told the Post it was the second time in the last year that her mother had traveled to New York to cross paths with the “X-Men” actor. After the first time, she was hospitalized, her daughter said.
“My mother has a very high IQ and is very manipulative,” the daughter said. “But she is sick and she doesn’t listen to the doctors. She can go from being completely lucid to totally crazy in seconds.”
Katherine Thurston was being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.
