‘Fury’ trailer: Brad Pitt leads brothers in arms in WWII tank movie

“The dying’s not done. The killing’s not done.”

Such are the ominous words uttered by Brad Pitt in the new trailer for the World War II tank drama “Fury,” which you can you watch above.

Set in 1945, during the final days of the war, “Fury” stars Pitt as Wardaddy, the leader of a hardened tank crew — Michael Pena, Shia LaBoeuf, Jon Bernthal — undertaking a dangerous mission to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

Logan Lerman (“The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) enters the fray as the group’s new assistant driver and presumable audience surrogate. He’s a fresh-faced rookie who flinches at a volley of gunfire, to Wardaddy’s dismay, but soon enough he’ll experience the crucible of war and the bonds forged therein.

Pitt, of course, is a veteran of the World War II genre, although the last time he starred in such a movie — Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” — it was a much more stylized affair. Here he looks to be giving a solemn turn, one that could come with award ambitions.

Indeed, Columbia Pictures has slated “Fury” to open Nov. 14, during the end-of-year period typically populated by awards-season hopefuls.

Along with Pitt, “Fury” writer-director David Ayer finds himself on familiar turf as well. Ayer has a military background and made his screenwriting debut on a movie about brothers in arms who toil in enclosed quarters: the submarine thriller “U-571.”

Most of his subsequent films as a writer or director have also explored relationships between men thrown together in life-and-death situations, including “Training Day” and “End of Watch.”
