Dr. Luke issues statement, tweets after injunction denied in Kesha lawsuit

After widespread outcry over a judge’s decision denying the singer Kesha a preliminary injunction, which would have halted her exclusive contract with producer Dr. Luke and label Sony, Dr. Luke has issued his first statement.
“The New York County Supreme Court on Friday found that Kesha is already ‘free’ to record and release music without working with Dr. Luke as a producer if she doesn’t want to. Any claim that she isn’t ‘free’ is a myth,” said his attorney Christine Lepara. “Kesha and her counsel have cavalierly subjected Dr. Luke and his family to trial by Twitter, using a vicious smear campaign to ruin his reputation for financial gain while failing to support their claims.”
The statement comes in response to the ongoing “#FreeKesha” social media campaign, which came after the singer claimed that Dr. Luke (born Lukasz Gottwald) drugged and sexually assaulted her, and refuses to let her record music outside his contractual purview. After the New York judge denied the injunction, the campaign picked up new energy from many prominent artists.
Taylor Swift, Lorde, Ariana Grande, Fiona Apple and many others all made public statements supporting Kesha, with Swift donating $250,000 to help defray the singer’s bills.
In another twist, the producer and fun. member Jack Antonoff has offered to help Kesha work on music as the case continues. “hey @kesharose -- don’t know what the legal specifics are, but if you want to make something together & then leak it for everyone I’m around,” he wrote. “or just make something and wait on it till that creep can’t block you anymore. standing offer.”
Monday afternoon, Dr. Luke took to social media to deny Kesha’s allegations with a stream of tweets, a selection of which appear below.
