John Clark Gable appeared to be ‘on drugs’ in crash, officials say
When Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies arrested the son of Hollywood great Clark Gable on suspicion of driving under the influence and hitting several cars in Malibu, he appeared to be “on drugs,” authorities said.
John Clark Gable, 52, was arrested about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Gable allegedly hit a vehicle near the Malibu Pier whose driver then followed him while calling 911, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Phil Brooks.
Gable crashed his Ford Raptor into at least five parked cars in the 21300 block of Pacific Coast Highway. There were no reported injuries. But Brooks said one of the parked cars was pushed into a garage door by the impact.
Responding deputies arrested Gable on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run. Brooks said Gable appeared “to be on drugs.”
A witness told KTLA-TV that Gable fell as he got out of the vehicle.
“It took him a few seconds to get out of his truck,” Geno Bahena told the television station. “And finally, when he got out of his truck -- I guess he was in shock or something -- he just fell on the floor.”
Gable was taken to a hospital for a blood test. Jail records showed that he was held on $15,000 bail and released from custody at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.
This is not the first legal trouble for the family.
In 2011, the “Gone With the Wind” star’s grandson was sentenced to 10 days in jail for pointing a laser device at an LAPD helicopter.
Clark James Gable of Canoga Park pleaded guilty to one felony count of discharging a laser pointer at an occupied aircraft. He admitted that while he was riding in a car traveling down La Brea Avenue, he flashed a laser pointer three times at an LAPD helicopter flying 800 feet above Hollywood Boulevard.
