Ian Sander, ‘Ghost Whisperer’ producer, dies at 68

Ian Sander, veteran television producer known for “Ghost Whisperer,” died Tuesday in the arms of his wife, Kim Moses. He was 68 years old. His family will hold a memorial service Monday.

Born in New York City, Sander left home at 17 to attend USC, where he eventually received a bachelor’s degree before attending Loyola Law School. He returned to USC years later to teach a master’s program at the School of Cinematic Arts, creating his own class called “The World of Television.”

Sander began his entertainment career as an actor. He worked in both American and European television, movies and theater with the Pulitzer Prize-winning “No Place to Be Somebody” as one of his first plays. He transitioned into producing after partnering with Laura Ziskin to form Kaleidoscope Films.

As a producer, Sander oversaw over 650 hours of dramatic prime-time television programming which included “Ghost Whisperer,” “Profiler” and “Reckless.” He also was a producer of the Emmy-winning series “Equal Justice” and “I’ll Fly Away.”

Most recently, Sander had just wrapped the ABC Network pilot “Spark” and was simultaneously executive producing YouTube’s first long-form documentary on the life of online personality Gigi Gorgeous, directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple.

The announcement of Sander’s death by a publicist did not say where he died or give a cause of death. Sander is survived by his wife and business partner Kim Moses and his two sons Aaron and Declan.

The memorial will take place at 10 a.m. at Valley Beth Shalom, 15739 Ventura Blvd., Encino.
