Late Night: Robin Roberts wasn’t happy to see Ann Curry go
Despite what you might think, Robin Roberts insists she wasn’t happy to see her morning rival Ann Curry ousted from “Today” back in June.
In an appearance on “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Thursday night, Roberts and her “Good Morning America” colleagues George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer, and Josh Elliott discussed their recent triumph over NBC’s once-invulnerable morning show. “Good Morning America” beat “Today” for the first time in 16 years this April, a position they have regained since the Olympics wrapped up last week.
Despite the show’s winning streak, Roberts insists she isn’t taking any joy in the upheavals at “Today.”
Invoking a sports metaphor, Roberts told Morgan, “You’re an Arsenal fan. You concentrate on your team, you don’t concentrate on others.”
She also said that the morning Curry left “Today,” they were all watching. “And we, on our program, which you don’t see very often, we spent the last couple of minutes talking about Ann Curry, on ‘Good Morning America,’ and appreciating her.”
“She’s an amazing person,” Champion concurred.
During the interview, Roberts also described her current situation – professional triumph coinciding with her battle against a rare blood disorder – as “surreal.”
