Dodgers’ Adrian Gonzalez asks $20,000 a month to rent La Jolla home
As Southern California’s summer rental market continues to heat up, at least one member of the Los Angeles Dodgers is looking to get in on the action. Newly listed for rent in La Jolla is the home of All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who asks $20,000 a month to lease his sprawling estate in La Jolla.
The Cape Cod-inspired home, built in 1958, frames panoramic views of the La Jolla coastline from a half-acre promontory with large viewing decks, a covered patio and an ocean-facing pool. Custom millwork, rich hardwoods and distinctive round windows add a nautical flair to the 10,000 square feet of living space, which counts seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
An elevator, a movie theater with five screens, a cellar, a gym, a wine tasting room and a spa are among the amenities. Adding to the cache of modern conveniences, found throughout the home are a number of iPad stations that control, among other things, the lighting, wired surround sound and video.
The home can be rented with furnishings for an additional cost, notes the listing.
Gonzalez purchased the estate while a member of the San Diego Padres, paying $7.2 million for the property in August 2010. He was dealt by San Diego to Boston for a package of players that December.
The Chula Vista native, 32, is in his second full season with the Dodgers since coming over from the Red Sox in the summer of 2012. He is batting .252 with 14 home runs this season.
