El incendio de maleza creció a 5.000 acres en las montañas de Verdugo el sábado por la mañana, amenazando casas y manteniendo la autopista 210 cerrada.
Cientos de bomberos lucharon contra el incendio durante la noche y por la mañana contra las llamas que se extendían en cuatro direcciones en medio de un intenso calor y vientos salvajes. A medida que fuertes y erráticos vientos empujaban la franja de llamas sobre las laderas, las autoridades ordenaron a las personas que viven en el área de Brace Canyon Park y Castleman Estates que “evacuaran inmediatamente” y se dirigieran a los refugios.
La orden de evacuación afecta a unas 200 viviendas, basadas en calles identificadas por la policía.
Se esperaba que las llamas llegaran a las líneas de defensa de los bomberos después de la medianoche, según la portavoz de LAFD, Margaret Stewart.
Uno de los refugios tras la evacuación se estableció en el Centro de Recreación Sunland.
El incendio conocido ahora como “La Tuna”, ya ha forzado el cierre de un tramo de la autopista 210 y ha amenazado a decenas de hogares en el área de Tujunga. Se espera que el 210 se mantenga cerrado el sábado por la mañana, dijeron las autoridades.
El incendio fue reportado antes de las 1:30 p.m. en el lado sur del 210 en el bloque 10800 de La Tuna Canyon Road, dijo la portavoz de LAFD Margaret Stewart.
Inicialmente el fuego cubría un acre o menos, pero un cambio de viento alrededor de las 2 p.m. enviaron brasas volando un cuarto de milla al norte a través de la autopista, donde la maleza seca y provocó un nuevo fuego, dijo Stewart.
El fuego se cuadruplicó en tamaño a las 9:30 p.m., ardiendo en diferentes direcciones en los cañones y predominantemente dirigiéndose hacia Burbank. No se reportaron lesiones ni daños estructurales.
Los residentes en Haines Canyon y Reverie Canyon estaban bajo una orden de evacuación voluntaria, se estima que cerca de 200 hogares estarían afectados, dijo Terrazas.
“Los vientos continúan cambiando, es un fuego muy dinámico”, dijo Scott.
Para detener el crecimiento del incendio, los bomberos de Pasadena, el Servicio Forestal de los EE. UU., Burbank y el Departamento de Bomberos del Condado de Los Angeles estaban en la escena.
