Alex Trebek’s mustache is back -- but is it in jeopardy?
Longtime “Jeopardy” fans tuning in to Monday night’s opening episode of the game show’s 31st season might have been surprised to see a once-familiar face -- that of host Alex Trebek -- sporting a mustache.
Trebek’s legendary lip spinach was a fixture on the show for some three decades before he gave the hairy adornment the heave-ho in 2001.
Now, 13 years later, the show returns from its summer hiatus with the ‘stache back in action. A little grayer and a little more trim than it once was, to be sure, but it’s there nonetheless.
Trebek actually addressed his switched-up grooming regimen at the top of the show, and let viewers know that this time around he was placing his upper lip wholly in their hands, asking viewers to weigh in via Facebook and Twitter as to whether he should keep the caterpillar (#KeepItTrebek) or remove the newly grown face furniture (#ShaveItTrebek).
This being the era where Angelina Jolie’s Leg and Pharrell’s Hat have Twitter accounts, it should come as no surprise that Trebek’s ‘stache has an account too -- @Alexs_Mustache.
No word yet on how long the lobbying will go on before the decision is made, though we suspect there will be some sweeps-week drama involved. Until the razor comes down or a permanent stay of execution is granted, Trebek’s Season 31 “Jeopardy” ’stache will just have to soldier on ... in jeopardy.
