The Image Photo Booth -- The 23rd Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon
Athletes, celebrities and philanthropists came together at Zuma Beach for the 23rd annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon, raising more than $1 million for the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles’ Pediatric Cancer Research Program, which funds research to develop therapies for some of the most serious pediatric cancers.
Competitors raced in a half-mile swim, 18-mile bike ride and a four-mile run along the coastline on Sept. 13, 2009.
Pictured: Jeremy Piven, the actor best known for playing Ari Gold in HBO’s series “Entourage,” listens to some music to get in the zone before the start of the triathlon.
Lisel Tucker, 24, of Los Angeles (dressed for what was, at least by Malibu standards, a cold morning) trained athletes in endurance sports for blood cancer research by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for the Nautica Triathlon.
Maria Elenalaas, 28, left, of Puerto Rico and Zosia Mamet, 21, of Los Angeles came to support their friend “Nicole” during the triathlon. About the hats? “They are NOT a fashion statement,” they said, laughing. “They are to protect from the sun.”
Emma Chontos, 38, left, of La Crescenta brought her friend Elizabeth Lee to help with twins Olivia and Jacke while she participated as part of Team Paramount Pictures.
Lynwood Robinson, 40, of Burbank, trained some some of the competitors. He says he loves seeing people transition through training: “It’s changing lives.”
