Reyn Spooner and the NBA collaborate on limited-edition Los Angeles Lakers aloha-wear

Venerable Hawaiian-shirt maker Reyn Spooner has collaborated with the National Basketball Assn. on aloha-print pieces that pay homage to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The limited-edition collection includes a camp shirt ($84.99) with basketball-themed buttons and a pair of shorts ($74.99), both in 100% cotton and offered in two background colors — purple or black — with the Lakers logo and name mixed into an allover palm-tree print.
Although the label has partnered with the purple and gold in the past (examples of a floral-print collaboration circa 2009 are currently up for bid on eBay), the new tie-up is more appropriate since the company, which was founded in Honolulu more than half a century ago, relocated its design studio and corporate headquarters to downtown L.A. in 2017. That essentially makes it a hometown brand. (Also, founder Reynolds McCullough originally hailed from SoCal, having grown up on Catalina Island.)
There’s no word as to whether there’s a Clippers-themed collection in the cards for fans of L.A.’s other hometown NBA team, but given that Reyn Spooner’s long-running relationship with Major League Baseball honors a handful of teams — the Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees and Giants, among them — it would make sense if more teams were eventually added to the NBA collaboration roster.
The Reyn Spooner limited-edition Los Angeles Lakers collection is available now exclusively through the online Lakers store at lakersstore.com and the Team LA store at Staples Center in downtown L.A.
