Bet you didn’t know these 5 new restaurants are open for lunch
The idea of a dinner-only restaurant is quickly fading, as more new restaurants are either opening with lunch, or adding lunch service after only a few weeks.
Below are five new restaurants serving lunch. Because your midday meal shouldn’t be limited to six-inch sandwiches at Subway. And if you want to order a $150 tomahawk steak with foie gras butter before your 2 p.m. meeting, you now have that option.
The new Northern Italian restaurant by the team behind Factory Kitchen — and located around an alley from that restaurant — has just launched lunch. Between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., you can order pasta, risotto and some of the grilled and braised meats the restaurant is known for, including a prime beef rib with smoked potatoes and a wood-oven-roasted turkey osso buco. 1331 E. 6th St., Los Angeles, (213) 553-8006, www.officinebrera.com.
This is where you can order that tomahawk steak with foie gras butter, an uni steamed egg and any number of cuts of meat, some of which are cooked at the table on gold-plated grills. This Culver City Korean BBQ restaurant is also serving $15 lunch combos, available from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Among those combos: poke bowls, katsu and stone pots of rice with bulgogi. 3829 Main St., Culver City, (323) 720-8804, www.hanjip.com.
Stephen Kalt’s Melrose Avenue restaurant is now open for lunch Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can order the handmade pastas and pizzas that are available for dinner, along with some new sandwiches, including the eggplant alla Parmigiana on ciabatta and a porchetta with Grottone cheese and salsa verde. There’s also a Northern Italian hamburger made with Gorgonzola dolce and caramelized onions. 7505 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 782-1023, www.spartina.la.
Nyesha Arrington’s Venice Beach restaurant is now serving lunch Tuesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Arrington created a completely new menu for the lunch service. Highlights include bulgogi chicken wings made with wildflower honey and chile sauce, sand dab sandwiches and a French onion soup-inspired burger. 123 Washington Blvd., Venice, (310) 822-5379, www.leonavenice.com.
At their new French restaurant, chef Tony Esnault and partner Yassmin Sarmadi (Church & State) are now serving lunch Tuesday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. So if you’re downtown, stuck in meetings or on jury duty, you can escape to an atrium oasis (skylight, trees) in the middle of the Douglas Building and have a glass of rosé with a salade nicoise, moules Provencal and a cheese plate for dessert. 257 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, 213-372-5189, springlosangeles.com.
