Shake Shack to open in downtown Los Angeles

The In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack burger rivalry is heating up. (Those from SoCal know the true winner.) Shake Shack, the New York City-originated burger chain plans to open a location in downtown L.A, DTLA Rising reported.

The downtown location will replace the 801 Hill nightclub at the corner of Hill Street and 8th Street. Shake Shack is expected to open in 2017.

The restaurant has developed a cult-like following, known for its rich frozen custards, cheeseburgers with tangy Shacksauce and long lines in Madison Square Park.

The downtown location will be the third Los Angeles outlet, with a Shake Shack opening at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and West Knoll Drive in West Hollywood and a location also planned for Glendale, across from the Americana shopping center.

Shake Shack started as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park as part of an effort to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation. In 2004, Shake Shack officially opened as a restaurant and has since grown to include locations in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Georgia, Florida and even Dubai.
