My Loving Story: How readers say interracial relationships have affected them

For many, June 12 is Loving Day, a day to celebrate a landmark case responsible, in some ways, for millions of couples and their children.

Back in 1958, Mildred and Richard Loving were arrested and convicted of being interracial while married in Virginia. Their punishment: serve jail time or leave the state for 25 years. They fought back and won in Supreme Court.

The 1967 Loving vs. Virginia decision deemed bans on interracial marriage unconstitutional. Recently, the anniversary of that decision has been informally celebrated by multiracial families across the country.
