Indie Focus: New Los Angeles Times Screening Series Debuts
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Times is expanding its broad slate of events for movie lovers and will raise the curtain on its new Indie Focus Screening Series on August 22nd. Spotlighting upcoming independent, documentary and foreign films, the monthly screenings will be held at the Laemmle NoHo 7 theatres and are free to the public. Each showing will be followed by lively and illuminating Q&A discussions with the filmmakers and stars moderated by The Times' Mark Olsen, who writes the regular Indie Focus feature. The series will kick off with director Jake Schreier and "Robot and Frank," which stars Frank Langella as a jewel thief who teams up with his mechanical butler for a heist.
"The Calendar section's Indie Focus coverage speaks to the thriving and vibrant independent film community and the importance of that audience," said John Corrigan, The Times' Assistant Managing Editor, Arts & Entertainment. "We conceived this screening series as a great way to give our readers a chance to see undiscovered gems, festival favorites and future awards contenders, and to join candid discussions of how these movies were brought to life."
Advance tickets are being made available to Los Angeles Times members today and for the general public at 10am tomorrow. Times members will also receive reserved seating and free concessions. The remaining seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and doors for "Robot and Frank" will open at 6:30pm.
The Indie Focus Screening Series joins The Times' annual Envelope Screening Series, Hero Complex Film Festival and Hero Complex IMAX screenings.
