Nothing small about these hats. And they’re eminently scrunchable for packing
Columbia’s “Diamond Lil’ Hat” So what if this was made for women? Extra-wide brim with canvas underside can protect anyone. Beware the geeky goober look when wind flips the brim up. $22. At Sport Chalet, (818) 790-9800, and Columbia Sportswear, (503) 985-4000. (Eric Boyd / LAT)
OR’s “Seattle Sombrero” Soggy-climate dome cap keeps rain out while wicking perspiration away. Cute sombrero, but muy serio price: $56. Outdoor Research, (888) 467-4327 (Eric Boyd / LAT)
REI’s “Elements Sombero” The tag attached to this ultra-light-weight hat says the is waterproof, windproof and breathable, and darn if there isnt truth in their advertising. Rain hits it, beads up, rolls off. Just like it should. Sweatbands comfy, but it’s not adjustable. Not as warm as ORs Seattle Sombero, but not as caro, either. $29. www.rei.com(Eric Boyd / LAT)
