Water tunnel in San Bernardino nears completion
The Inland Feeder Project, a 44-mile pipeline project to connect the California Aqueduct to the Diamond Valley Lake Reservoir in Riverside, is seeing light at the end of a two-decade tunnel.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California jokes that the $1.2-billion project suffered everything but a plague of locusts. Still, the agency insisted it needed the high-capacity system to bring water from Northern California.
Now the project is close to done with its last bit of tunneling: a four-mile stretch in the San Bernardino Mountains known as the Arrowhead West Tunnel.
