Two boaters dumped into ocean by collision with whale off Point Loma

Two persons on a whale-watching trip off Point Loma reported being dumped into the water when their boat capsized after colliding with a blue whale, the U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday.
The two were plucked from the water by a nearby boater and brought to shore without injury. A commercial firm towed the 23-foot boat into Shelter Island, the Coast Guard said.
The nearby boater had called the Coast Guard around noon to report seeing the two persons thrown into the water after the whale hit their boat.
The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
