An anonymous caller claiming a bomb was hidden on campus prompted the evacuation of hundreds of students Tuesday at a Rossmoor elementary school.

Administrators at Richard Henry Lee Elementary alerted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department after receiving the threatening call at 12:41 p.m.

Students, teachers and other staffers at the school were moved to nearby Rossmoor Elementary after deputies and members of the bomb squad arrived.

School officials contacted parents “that a reunification center would be ready at Rossmoor School” while investigators searched the Lee campus thoroughly, said Lt. Jeff Hallock, Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

No explosives were found during the search, and some teachers were permitted back on campus after the incident.

Sherry Kropp, superintendent of the Los Alamitos Unified School District, said Lee’s entire student population of 600 was evacuated.

“I’m glad that they did not find anything, and school will resume as normal tomorrow,” she said.
