Man dies after Burbank police shoot him with Taser; second armed suspect in custody
A man suspected of making threats died after police shot him with a Taser on Tuesday evening outside a Burbank home, authorities said.
Burbank police showed up at the house, on the 500 block of North Mariposa Street, after someone reported the man for making criminal threats, said Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco.
The man, who was in his 60s, emerged from the house and immediately became confrontational with officers, they said.
A fight ensued, during which police shot him with a Taser.
During the struggle, a second man armed with a handgun appeared in the doorway and threatened the officers.
Officers backed off from the first suspect, after which the armed man barricaded himself in the home for about 40 minutes.
During that time, officers approached the first suspect, who was down in the driveway, and pulled him from the home so he could be treated by paramedics, who pronounced him dead.
The barricade situation was resolved after police spoke with the armed man over the phone. He was subsequently arrested.
The relationship between the two men is not clear. Details on what sort of threats were made by the man who died — and to whom — were not available.
Internal affairs investigators were alerted to the incident, as were representatives of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, which is customary with in-custody deaths.
