Man fatally shot in confrontation with deputies in Willowbrook

A man was shot and killed Wednesday in a confrontation with deputies in Willowbrook, authorities said Wednesday night.
The shooting was reported shortly after 7 p.m. in the 2000 block of East Piru Street.
The victim was shot by at least one deputy and pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
There were no immediate details on what sparked the shooting or whether the victim was armed. Homicide detectives were responding.
Since January 2007, at least 190 homicides have been reported in Willowbrook, according to the Times Homicide Report database.
[For the record 9:51 p.m.: The Sheriff’s Department initially said the shooting was in Compton but the agency now says it was in Willowbrook.]
