Emmy-winning producer wanted for allegedly stabbing roommate over Oscars joke
Los Angeles police have issued an arrest warrant for an Emmy-winning producer who allegedly tried to kill his roommate earlier this week with a kitchen knife.
Andre Bauth, whose real name is Andre Salaman Bautista, is wanted on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after his roommate was stabbed with a kitchen knife.
Bautista won a daytime Emmy earlier this year as a producer for the soap opera “The Bay.”
An arrest warrant was issued for Bautista on Thursday, said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the L.A. County district attorney’s office.
Events unfolded before 3 a.m. Tuesday, when police were called to a home in the 3100 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard in Studio City for a report of a stabbing, said Officer Liliana Preciado.
Bautisa, 36, had apparently gotten into an argument with a roommate in his kitchen, which escalated when Bautista grabbed a knife, stabbed the roommate and then fled, Preciado said.
She said Bautista may be arranging for his peaceful surrender.
A man who identified himself as Bautista’s roommate and the victim of the stabbing gave an interview to KCBS-TV Channel 2, during which he said the argument was over a joke about Bautista winning Oscars.
When Clayton Haymes, 23, arrived home after dinner and drinks with friends, Bautista boasted that he would would win five Oscars someday, CBS reported.
“When he said ‘five Oscars,’ we all kind of laughed a little bit, and he got really upset,” Haymes said.
