Arson is suspected in series of North Hollywood fires
Eight individual fires that erupted across North Hollywood and Sun Valley early Sunday morning are being investigated as possible arson, authorities said.
The fires all occurred in close proximity, with the first blaze erupting around 3 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said.
The incidents included multiple dumpster fires, as well as a mattress that was laid against a car and ignited. The burning mattress also caused the car to ignite, Scott said.
A structure next to a large commercial building also was burned.
“Due to the firefighters’ quick efforts, all fires were swiftly extinguished, [which] minimized damage,” Scott said.
No injuries were reported.
LAFD’s arson unit is investigating and has urged anybody with information about the fires to call (213) 893-9850.
